Report Card Pickup – Just a reminder report card pickup conferences are this Wednesday, November 14th. Thank you to everyone who scheduled an appointment with me. For those of you who did not, please contact me or return the slip I sent home. I will have conferences between 11:00 am – 5:50 pm with a break at 3:00 pm for lunch. There are no classes that day.

Schedule – Since the schedule over the next two weeks is so sporadic, we have combined the information students will learn over the next two weeks into one weekly overview and homework calendar for your convenience.  Reminder – there is no school on Monday, November 12th, in honor of Veterans Day. Wednesday, November 14th, classes are canceled for Report Card Pick up. The Thanksgiving Holiday begins on Wednesday, November 21st and students will return to school on Monday, November 26th.

Math – This week students will take the Unit 3 assessment on Tuesday.  We will then begin Unit 4, where we will focus on number stories and strategies for answering them.  Students can also continue their independent learning at home by visiting mobymax.com. Our school is listed as Ray elem, and students know their online usernames and passwords.

Language Arts – This week we will continue our non-fiction unit.  Our reading skill this week consists of learning how headings in non-fiction texts help us organize our thoughts, and comprehension of the text.  Students will also learn how to use context clues to help them understand the meaning of unknown words. Students can also continue independent practice at home on Headsprout.com.  The class username is mmwebb1. Students know their individual passwords once on the class website.

Social Studies – Students should be working on their special Native American diorama projects.  Projects will be due at school on Monday, November 26th but can be turned in early for students who wish to insure that they have no homework over the Thanksgiving holiday.  This week in class we will continue our Native American unit.  Students will continue learning about Native Americans of the Northwest Coast, and begin learning about Native Americans of the Southwest Coast.

Science – This week students will continue with our solids and liquids unit.  This week students will begin learning about Non-Newtonian liquids, including Oobleck.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at mmwebb@cps.edu.

Sincerely,

Ms. Webb and Ms. Montney
