Week of September 24th, 2018

Math – This week students will review Unit 1 and take the unit 1 assessment. Students will then begin working in Unit 2 which focuses on students mastering all addition and subtraction facts.  This week students will learn the difference between even and odd numbers, and how to prove which number is which.


Language Arts – This week we will continue reading our first novel of the year, Zeely by Virginia Hamilton.  Students will also continue studying story structure this week.  Specifically, students will learn to identify main characters, and the setting in a text.  Students will also practice identifying the problem and solution in a text. In writing students will finish writing about a special day with their family.  Students will also finish creating their own family trees in class. Students will take a short assessment on Thursday reviewing story structure.


Social StudiesThis week we will expand our studies of community as we begin looking at government.  


Science – This week students will continue working in our first unit of the year – solids and liquids.  This week students will continue observing the properties of solids.
