Week of March 19th, 2018

Math – This week we will continue working on Unit 7.   Students will explore U.S customary length units measuring to the nearest meter, generate data measuring to the nearest centimeter and inch, create line plots based off data students collected. Lastly, students will take a unit 7 quiz on Friday. We will review for the quiz in class on Thursday. Students will also continue learning how to subtract multi-digit numbers with regrouping.  Finally, students will continue their individualized small group math instruction and Mobymax. Students may work on their Mobymax at home as well as at school.

 

Language Arts – This week we will focus on main idea and details while reading Penguin Chick.  The target strategy used while reading the text will be inferring/predicting.  Students will complete writing a final draft of their persuasive writing pieces.  Students will take a reading and vocabulary test this Friday on the reading selection.  We have been working hard to earn enough Dojo points to watch March of the Penguins this Friday to learn more about emperor penguins from our reading this week.  If you do not want your child to watch this movie, please let me know before Friday.  Finally, students will continue their individualized reading on Raz-Kids.com and Moby Max reading.

 

Vocabulary words: finally, otherwise, junior, waterproof, slippery, webbed, steer, whistle      

 

Social StudiesThis week we will continue our social studies unit on Ancient Civilizations: China.  Students will continue adding cities, landforms and other major features on their map of China in the student booklet.  Students will also learn about the Great Wall of China, the Yellow River and Yangtze River, and begin learning about important inventions originating from China.    

 

Science – This week we will continue wrapping up our Earth’s Systems unit, All About Earth: Landforms and Changes. We will discuss examples of weathering and erosion to landforms and review which changes to the landforms are created quickly versus slowly.
