Week of February 20th, 2018


Math – This week we will continue working in Unit 6 which focuses on analyzing and organizing data.   Students will solve comparison number stories, two-step number stories, make ballpark estimates recording strategies used to solve addition problems, and finally build readiness for partial-sums addition.  Students will continue learning how to subtract multi-digit numbers.  Students will also continue with their individualized small group math instruction and Mobymax.  Students may work on their Mobymax at home as well as at school.   


Language Arts – This week we will focus on cause and effect while reading the story Officer Buckle and Gloria. We will also continue working on story structure. Students will begin the planning process for a new opinion writing unit. Finally, students will continue their individualized reading on Raz-Kids.com and Moby Max reading. Vocabulary words: obeys, safety, attention, station, shocked, buddy, speech, enormous      


Social StudiesThis week Ray school will have its African American history gallery walk through and assembly on Wednesday.  If you have an opportunity, please come and view our Freedom quilts.  They came out beautifully.  In class we will finish up our African American history unit.  


Science – This week we will continue our Earth’s Systems unit, All About Earth: Landforms and Changes.  We will continue discussion weathering and erosion, focusing on how wind and water change the shape of land. Students will complete a cookie experiment, investigating how wind and water change the shape of land. Lastly, students will complete their second student booklet reading about mountains, hills, valleys, plains, plateaus, islands and draw each landform in their student booklet.
