Week of January 22nd, 2018

Math – This week we will continue working in Unit 5.  Unit 5 focuses on counting up with money and making change.  This week students will learn strategies to help them with solving math number stories.  We will also continue to practice adding multiple digit numbers.  We will plan to take the Unit 5 test on Monday, January 29th.  Study packets for the Unit 5 test will be sent home this week.  Please complete the study packet with your student.  Students will also continue with their individualized small group math instruction and Mobymax.  Students may work on their Mobymax at home as well as at school.   


Language Arts – This week we will continue reading our new novel The Hundred Dresses. We will focus on learning how using prefixes, suffixes, and root words to help determine the meaning of new words. We will also introduce making predictions to help develop ideas about what a story or text will be about. In writing, students will write about standing up for what is right.


Social StudiesThis week we will continue our African American history studies.  Specifically we will begin learning about Harriet Tubman and her life as a young girl.  Students will also begin learning about the Abolitionist movement.


Science – This week students will continue working in our new science unit Land and Water.  This week students will begin learning about the ways that land resources have shaped human development.
