Week of November 6th, 2017

Field Trip- We have a special opportunity to go to a Pow Wow on November 21st.  If you have not returned your field trip form and payment yet, please do so as soon as possible to reserve your child’s space.

 

Math – This week we will continue Unit 3, which will focus on more fact strategies. Students will play the game Salute! to find missing addends, use the counting-up and counting-back strategy for subtraction, explore the -0 and -1 fact strategies and play Subtraction Top-It. Lastly students will find the missing numbers in “What’s My Rule?” problems. Students will also continue their individualized learning on Mobymax.  Students may work on their Mobymax at home as well as at school.

 

Language Arts – This week we will continue reading  Zeely by Virginia Hamilton.  We will take a break from our Journey’s stories as we continue our Native American unit.  This week, we will be reading informational text about the Southwest Coast tribes  Our vocabulary words are: towns, adobe houses, hogan houses, pottery, kachinas, code, desert, and sacred.  There will NOT be a reading or vocabulary test this week as students will be working on their Southwest Coast Native American packets. In addition students will continue working on their opinion/persuasive writing. This week students will begin their rough draft and start their final drafts at the end of the week.

 

Social StudiesAll students should be working on their Native American Diorama projects at home.  Dioramas are due at school on November 13th.  Directions for this special project were sent home last week, and are posted on our web page.  In class, we will continue our Native American unit.  This week we will learn about our final group – Southwest Coast Native American tribes.  

 

Science – This week students will continue working with solids and liquids.  This week students will continue learning about physical change.
