Week of October 16th, 2017

 

Math – This week students will continue working in Unit 2. Students will explore doubles and  combinations of 10, place value to add within 20, using the near doubles strategy to solve addition facts, and use dominos to explore the turn-around rule for addition  

 

Language Arts – This week we will continue reading our first novel of the year, Zeely by Virginia Hamilton.  We will take a break from our Journey’s stories as we begin our Native American unit.  This week, we will be reading informational text about the People of the Plains.  Our vocabulary words are:  tradition, teepee, parfleche, nomadic, respect, travois, earth lodge, and settlers.  This week, students will continue writing a story about something they know how to make or do.  There will NOT be a reading or vocabulary test this week as students will be working on their People of the Plains packets.

 

Social StudiesThis week students will begin our Native American unit.  This week we will learn about the people of the plains.

 

Science – This week students will continue our first unit of the year – solids and liquids.  This week students will observe liquids with different consistencies and use properties to describe these differences.
