Week of September 18th, 2017

Raz-kids:  We successfully reached our goal, and have purchased a Raz-Kids subscription.  Students will learn their new passwords, and I will share guided reading levels with all students and families.  Thank you to everyone who contributed to this goal!


Math – This week students will continue working in Unit 1.  This week we plan to cover lessons 1.5 – 1.8.  Specifically students will focus on adding coins, number patterns, and memorizing their addition and subtraction facts.  


Language Arts – This week we will continue reading our first novel of the year, Zeely by Virginia Hamilton.  We will also read the story My Family.  Our vocabulary words are: remembered, porch, crown, spend, stuck, visit, cousin, piano.  This week, students will begin writing about a special day with their family.  Students will take a reading comprehension and vocabulary test on Friday.


Social StudiesThis week we will continue creating our classroom community.  In addition, students will begin looking at the larger community and the ways government creates rules for its citizens.  


Science – This week students will continue our first unit of the year – solids and liquids.  This week students will continue observing the properties of solids.

Read the passage containing our vocabulary words. Write a story using as many of the vocabulary words as possible. Bring Your Journey’s book home to re-read the story and prepare for tomorrow’s test. None
