Week of June 12, 2017

ABC Countdown – This week our letters are T, U, V, W, and X.  Monday is thank you day, Tuesday is USA day, Wednesday is voting day, Thursday is walk day, and Friday is X and O day (so students will play tic-tac-toe).

Math – This week students will finish working in unit 9, our final math unit of the year.  Unit 9 focuses on dividing shapes into equal parts as an introduction to fractions.  In addition, unit 9 reviews all of the concepts we have learned throughout the school year.  Students can also continue their individualized math lessons on mobymax.com from home.  If you have difficulty logging in from home, please let me know.

Language Arts – This week, we will finish reading  The City of Ember by Jeanne Duprau.  Our novel ends with a cliff hanger.  If your student would like to find out what happens to Lina and Doon, they will have to read the remaining Ember series (a great start to your summer reading list).  The titles are as follows:  The City of Ember, The People of Sparks, The Prophet of Yonwood, and The Diamond of Darkhold.  All of the books are written by Jeanne Duprau.  This week we will also read “Two of Everything” in our Journey’s books.  This week’s vocabulary words are: search, contained, startled, odd, leaned, tossed, grateful, and village.  There will NOT be a reading test this Friday.

Social Studies – We will finish up our Passport series this week. Our final presentation will be on Argentina.  Students will complete their Passport booklets and bring them home as a souvenir of all we have learned.

Science – This week students will complete our studies of insects and plants.  We will complete our observations of Praying Mantis.
