Week of June 5, 2017

 

NWEA Test Results – Most students completed their NWEA tests last week.  Test results were sent home in folders on Thursday.  If you did not see your student’s results, or would like another copy please let me know.

 

ABC Countdown – This week our letters are O, P, Q, R, and S.  Monday is opposite day, Tuesday is pajama day, so students can wear their pajamas to school.  Wednesday is question day, Thursday is races at recess day, and Friday is sticker day.

 

Math – This week students will continue working in unit 9, our final math unit of the year.  Unit 9 focuses on dividing shapes into equal parts as an introduction to fractions.  In addition, unit 9 reviews all of the concepts we have learned throughout the school year.  Students can also continue their individualized math lessons on mobymax.com from home.  If you have difficulty logging in from home, please let me know.

 

Language Arts – This week, we will continue reading  The City of Ember by Jeanne Duprau.  We will also read “Working in Space” in our Journey’s books.  This week’s vocabulary words are: astronomy, orbit, space, explored, repair, float, force, and future.  We will take a reading and vocabulary test on our Journey’s story this Friday.    

 

Social Studies – We will continue with our Passport series this week.  Last week we had a wonderful presentation on Senegal and this week we will learn about South Korea.  All parents are invited to come in and share pictures and stories about countries they have visited or lived in.  Please email me at mmwebb@cps.edu to schedule a time when you can come in and present.  

 

Science – This week students will observe our Praying Mantis.  Last week we released our butterflies into the world.  In addition, students will continue to learn about the lifecycle of all insects in class.
