Week of May 30, 2017

 

NWEA Testing – Students will take the reading and math NWEA tests on Tuesday, May 30th and Wednesday, May 31st.  Please make sure that students have a good night’s rest each evening, and a good breakfast and lunch each day.  

 

ABC Countdown – This week our letters are K, L, M, and N.  Tuesday is kicks day, so students should wear their favorite kicks (shoes).  Wednesday is love day, students will show their love through handshakes, hugs, notes and words.  Thursday is music day – I will play music at 3:30.  and hula-hoop day.  Thursday is identical day, so students should dress like a twin.  Friday is joke day. Friday is nice day, students will be extra nice to everyone.

 

Math – This week students will continue working in unit 9, our final math unit of the year.  Unit 9 focuses on dividing shapes into equal parts as an introduction to fractions.  In addition, unit 9 reviews all of the concepts we have learned throughout the school year.  Students can also continue their individualized math lessons on mobymax.com from home.  If you have difficulty logging in from home, please let me know.

 

Language Arts – This week, we will continue reading  The City of Ember by Jeanne Duprau.  We will also read “The Dog That Dug For Dinosaurs” in our Journey’s books.  This week’s vocabulary words are: exact, discovered, remove, growled, amazed, explained, guard and souvenirs.  We will take a reading and vocabulary test on our Journey’s story this Friday.    

 

Social Studies – We will continue with our Passport series this week.  All parents are invited to come in and share pictures and stories about countries they have visited or lived in.  Please email me at mmwebb@cps.edu to schedule a time when you can come in and present.  

 

Science – This week students will observe the final stage of a butterfly’s life, as our butterflies leave their chrysali.  In addition, students will continue to learn about the lifecycle of all insects in class.
