Ray School Walk-a-thon – We will be holding our walk-a-thon on Friday, May 19th.  We are raising money to fund recess monitors, as well as a filtered water bottle filling fountain.  All students will participate in the walk-a-thon regardless of whether they participate in fundraising, we hope as many students and families as possible will create fundraising pages.  You may use the website  http://rayschool.dojiggy.com to create your fundraising page.

Math – This week students will continue working in Unit 8 which focuses on geometric shapes, and introduces multiplication.  We will aim to take the Unit 8 test on Tuesday, May 16th.  Students can also continue their individualized math lessons on mobymax.com from home.  If you have difficulty logging in from home, please let me know.

Language Arts – This week, we will continue reading  The City of Ember by Jeanne Duprau.  We will also read “How Groundhog’s Garden Grew” in our Journey’s books.  This week’s vocabulary words are:  crops, sprouting, blossomed, drooping, underneath, harmful, fortunate, and promised.  We will take a reading and vocabulary test on our Journey’s story this Friday.

Social Studies – We will continue with our Passport series this week, with a presentation on Italy.  All parents are invited to come in and share pictures and stories about countries they have visited or lived in.  Please email me at mmwebb@cps.edu to schedule a time when you can come in and present.

Science – Students should finish up their insects research brochures.  Final projects are due at school this Friday, May 19th.  Instructions and rubrics have been sent home.  You can also find the instructions on my website.  Students will continue to learn about insects in class, and observe our caterpillars as they begin to form their chrysalis.
