Week of April 24, 2017

 

 

Ray School Walk-a-thon – We will be holding our walk-a-thon on Friday, May 19th.  We are raising money to fund recess monitors, as well as a filtered water bottle filling fountain.  All students will participate in the walk-a-thon regardless of whether they participate in fundraising, we hope as many students and families as possible will create fundraising pages.  You may use the website  http://rayschool.dojiggy.com to create your fundraising page.  

 

Math – This week students will finish working in Unit 7 which focuses on measurement, as well as multi-digit addition and subtraction.  We will plan on taking the Unit 7 test on Thursday.  I will send home study packets by Wednesday.  Please complete the study packet with your student.  Students can also continue their individualized math lessons on mobymax.com from home.  If you have difficulty logging in from home, please let me know.

 

Language Arts – This week, we will continue reading  The City of Ember by Jeanne Duprau.  We will also read “Gloria Who Might Be My Best Friend” in our Journey’s books.  This week’s vocabulary words are:  knot, copy, planning, lonely, heavily, seriously, answered, guessed.  In addition, students will continue reading versions of Cinderella from around the world as we prepare for this week’s field trip to see Cinderella Remix on April 27th. We will take a reading and vocabulary test on our Journey’s story this Friday.    

 

Social Studies – We will have the first presentation of our Passport series this week on the country of Turkey.  All parents are invited to come in and share pictures and stories about countries they have visited or lived in.  Please email me at mmwebb@cps.edu to schedule a time when you can come in and present.  

 

Science – This week, we will continue with our unit on insects.  This week we will be discussing what insects are, and what we already know about insects.
