Week of April 17, 2017

Parent Teacher Conferences – This Wednesday we are having parent teacher conferences.  Most of you have signed up for a conference time already.  If you have not completed the conference slip I sent home before break, please return it or email me a time that will work for you.  I look forward to seeing all of you this Wednesday.

Math – This week students will continue working in Unit 7 which focuses on measurement as well as multi-digit addition and subtraction.  Students can also continue their individualized math lessons on mobymax.com from home.  If you have difficulty logging in from home, please let me know.

Language Arts – This week, we will begin reading our final novel of the school year – The City of Ember by Jeanne Duprau.  We will also read “Penguin Chick” in our Journey’s books.  This week’s vocabulary words are:  webbed, waterproof, steer, whistle, otherwise, junior, slippery, and finally.  In addition, students will continue reading versions of Cinderella from around the world as we prepare for our field trip to see Cinderella Remix on April 27th. We will take a reading and vocabulary test on our Journey’s story this Friday.

Social Studies – We are beginning our Passport series this week.  Our first presentation will be on Turkey.  I would like to invite parents to come in and share pictures and stories about countries they have visited or lived in.  Please email me at mmwebb@cps.edu to schedule a time when you can come in and present.

Science – This week, we will celebrate Earth Day and discuss the many reasons we must care for our planet.  We will also begin our unit on insects.  This week we will be discussing what insects are and what we already know about insects.
