Week of January 16, 2017

Field Trip – We will be going to the Children’s Theater on Wednesday to watch the play The Hundred Dresses.  Students should bring their own lunch to school on Wednesday as we will eat lunch in the classroom when we return from our field trip.

Math – This week students will finish working in Unit 4 and review the unit in preparation for Monday’s math test.  Unit 4 focuses on time and introduces adding multi-digit numbers.  I will send a study packet home for the test on Wednesday.  Please complete the study packet with your student.  We will plan to take the Unit 4 math test on Monday, January 23rd.  Students can also continue their individualized math lessons on mobymax.com from home.  If you have difficulty logging in from home, please let me know.

Language Arts – This week, students will finish reading our novel The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes.  We will also see the play to this story on Wednesday.  This week we will focus our studies on the message of the novel and play.  We will NOT read a new Journey’s story this week, so there will not be a reading comprehension test on Friday.

Social StudiesThis week in Social Studies, we will focus our African American history studies on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  We will learn about his message of peace.

Science – This week, we will begin our new science unit – Land and Water.  This week students will begin learning about the composition of land on our beautiful planet.
